We Handle the Entire STK Process for You in 4 Steps

No need to waste time sorting it out yourself — bring the car in, we'll explain what we'll fix and why, and once it's done you'll pick up your vehicle with a valid STK and EK.

1

Check-in and Diagnostics

We scan the vehicle with professional diagnostic equipment, revealing hidden OBD faults that the inspection station would otherwise catch on the spot.

2

Full Inspection

We check the brakes, lights, chassis, exhaust, tyres and mandatory equipment — exactly according to the STK methodology.

3

Fault Repair

Before any repair, we call you, explain what we found and the price. We don't do anything without your approval.

4

Handling the STK and EK

We take the car to the technical and emissions inspection ourselves. You just come and collect the finished paperwork and stickers.

— What We Check Before the STK —

Complete Vehicle Preparation Checklist

The most common reasons a car fails the STK in 2026 are surprisingly minor — a blown bulb, a fluid leak, a slight difference in braking force. We find these before the technician at the station does.

🛞

Braking System

Measuring brake effectiveness and balance, checking pads, discs, and brake hose integrity.

💡

Lighting

Bulbs, headlight alignment, number plate lighting. The #1 reason for failing the STK.

⚙️

Chassis and Steering

Ball joints, bushings, boots, shock absorbers, axle condition and steering play.

🔧

Tyres and Wheels

Tread depth (min. 1.6 mm), sidewall condition, wheel approval per the vehicle's registration document.

💨

Exhaust and Emissions

Exhaust system tightness, emission levels, AdBlue, DPF/FAP filter condition, lambda sensor.

🖥️

Reading fault codes with professional diagnostic equipment — including airbag and ABS control units.

🧰

Mandatory Equipment

Warning triangle, hi-vis vest, first-aid kit (not expired), spare wheel, wheel nut wrench.

📄

Documents and Identification

Legible VIN, number plate, manufacturer's plate, valid registration certificate, window tint certificates.

— 2026 Updates —

What's Changed in STK & EK Rules

Stricter rules came into effect in January 2026. Many drivers are caught off guard to find that even a technically sound car may not pass the inspection. We'll prepare you for all the changes.

Insurance

Compulsory Liability Insurance Check

Since January 1, 2026, the STK station verifies your compulsory liability insurance (PZP) directly in the SKP database. Without valid insurance, you won't pass — even with a perfect car.

Emissions

Stricter Emission Limits

More thorough checking of emission values, especially for older diesel vehicles. Pay close attention to your DPF, EGR and AdBlue level.

Digital Monitoring

Camera Surveillance at Stations

Technicians can no longer overlook small details. Every step of the inspection is monitored — even something as minor as an incorrectly mounted number plate can fail you.

How Much Does STK Preparation and Processing Cost

You'll find out the final price after the initial diagnostics, and you'll always approve it in advance. We never charge anything without your consent.

In 24 years in this business, I keep seeing the same thing — people come in for the STK with a car that 'drives fine,' and they're caught off guard by a blown bulb above the number plate or an oil leak under the engine. These are small things we can fix in 10 minutes at the garage. But if the station turns you away because of it, you end up paying twice — for the inspection and for the lost time.

— Frequently Asked Questions —

What People Ask Us Most Often

Answers to the questions we hear every day from drivers in Žilina and the surrounding area.

How long does preparing a vehicle for the STK take?
The pre-inspection check with professional diagnostics takes 45–90 minutes. If we find faults, we'll let you know their scope and an estimated price — you decide what to fix. We usually complete the entire process, including handling the STK/EK, within 1 working day.
Do I need to go to the technical inspection myself?
No. We take the car to the nearest STK station in Žilina on your behalf. You just come to collect the finished vehicle with a valid sticker and certificates at the agreed time.
What if the car still doesn't pass the STK after preparation?
This is very rare, since we check exactly what the STK station checks beforehand. If an issue we didn't catch does come up, we'll fix it and take the car back for a re-inspection without unnecessary extra costs.
Do I need valid compulsory liability insurance to pass the STK in 2026?
Yes. Since January 1, 2026, STK stations verify compulsory liability insurance (PZP) directly in the Slovak Insurers' Bureau database. Without it, you won't even be admitted for the inspection. Check that your insurance is paid before booking an appointment.
My engine warning light is on — should I go for the STK?
Definitely not. A lit engine warning light (MIL) automatically means failing the emissions test, since it signals a fault in the control system. It's best to contact us first — we'll use professional diagnostics to find and fix the exact cause. You can read more in our car diagnostics section.
How often do I need to have the technical and emissions inspection done? ?
Passenger vehicles in category M1 undergo their first STK and EK four years after first registration, and then every two years. Motorcycles and quad bikes, since July 2024, every four years.
